The Camino de Santiago is one of the most significant cultural routes in the world and is travelled by an increasing number of pilgrims every year. In 2013, some 215,000 pilgrims received the Compostela certificate and, of these, approximately 70% follow the French Route.
Pilgrims mainly pass through Ventosa from April to October and each day, on average, more than double the number of residents registered in the town (164 inhabitants in 2012) and on certain days these figures can exceed 700 people.
As a result, the Camino has become an important source of income for towns with limited economic resources.
